Energizer Sizing Recommendation

We recommend sizing your energizer using the 1 Joule Per Mile Rule.

Calculate the total miles of energized wire, rather than simply the perimeter length. For example, a 2-mile fence with five energized wires represents approximately 10 miles of energized wire.

This provides a more practical way to size an energizer while allowing capacity for vegetation, fence leakage, and challenging field conditions.

Grounding Recommendation

We recommend approximately 3 feet of grounding per output joule.

Proper grounding is one of the most important parts of an electric fence system. Additional grounding may be necessary in dry, sandy, rocky, or other poorly conductive soils.
